ISLAMABAD - Federal capital police arrested Barrister Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, senior lawyer of the Supreme Court and newly elected President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), after the imposition of emergency in the country on Saturday and was later sent to Adyala Jail.
The police sealed off the residence of Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and took him into custody Saturday evening.
However, Aitziz did not resist over his arrest, sources close to the development revealed to TheNation.
Aitzaz has been arrested under the MPO 3, however, later he was taken to the Kohsar Police Station and kept him there for about five hours. Later in the night he was taken Adyala Jail for one month.
Earlier, in the morning Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan at a weekly SCBA meeting had vowed to strongly resist if the Martial Law or Emergency were imposed in the country.
Aitzaz is a PPP MNA and istan People’s Party Parliamentarian, newly elected SCBA president and, above all, the defense lawyer of the former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the presidential reference filed against him on March 9.
