our staff reporter

ISLAMABAD-The Supreme Court of Pakistan notified Sunday the cancellation of all the hearings of cases pending before it for this week.

“It is notified for the information of all the concerned advocates, advocates-on-record/litigant public that all the cases for which the court has given a date of hearing, for the week commencing from 5th to 8th Nov 2007, stand cancelled due to changed circumstances,” said a notification issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
“The next date of hearing for the cases would be communicated later.” it added.

The notification issued by the Supreme Court would impact the hearings of petitions filed in the apex court against the candidature of General Pervez Musharraf for the slot of President, which were scheduled to be heard by the apex court during the said week.

Apart from the above-mentioned cases, other two important cases to be affected by the notification are of missing persons and Nawaz Sharif’s return to the country and his re-exile. The new date for hearing all the cases now would be notified later.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General Malik Muhammad Qayyum said the Supreme Court’s endorsement of the new Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) was not required, though, he added that the Supreme Court was authorised to give any decision about the emergency, if the move was challenged in the apex court.

He said all the institutions including assemblies were in place and only the fundamental rights were suspended.
