Former SC registrar’s comments irk govt

By Nasir Iqbal

ISLAMABAD, Nov 7: There are rumours in the capital that Dr Faqir Hussain is going to be removed from the post of Secretary Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan following his replacement as the Registrar Supreme Court after the proclamation of the state of emergency.

According to sources, Dr Faqir angered the government with his outburst against the treatment meted out to judges of the apex court removed under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) and virtually held incommunicado. Talking to the press on Monday, Dr Faqir expressed concern over the condition of judges who, he said, were honourable people and the government was committing an illegal act by putting them under wrongful confinement. He also stated that it was unacceptable to treat judges as criminals.

The sources told Dawn that a charge-sheet had been prepared against Dr Faqir, who was not allowed to take his official car inside the Supreme Court when he came to attend his office on Wednesday. He had to walk to the office.

“Perhaps they wanted to humiliate me,” Dr Faqir observed when contacted.
